Platform Review: O’Reilly

One of the platforms I have been subscribed to recently was O’Reilly. It offers various resources on technology. From books to video courses, it offers high quality education for a monthly, trimonthly, or yearly subscription.

In this article, we will talk about the features and benefits of the platform, the cost (whether it is worth it), and who should sign up to.

What It Offers

O’Reilly provides mostly tech-related resources for learning. These include books, audio books, videos, courses, and even events where they talk about a specific talk.

The resources provided are mostly ones published by O’Reilly themselves, but they also offer ones from other publishers like Packt.

The resources span mostly tech-related topics, such as learning a specific programming language, software architecture, cybersecurity, AI, and more. They also offer some resources on self-help, business, and management.

Personally, I find the books published by them to be of very high quality. I have not used the other resources as much. But I’ve read both technical and non-technical books. I would typically read a technical book in the morning or before work on my laptop or PC, then I would read non-technical books on my phone on other times, such as when I’m eating

Cost

As of the date of publishing of this article, the monthly subscription costs $49 per month, the trimonthly subscription costs $129, and the yearly subscription costs $499.

The cost is higher than other, similar platforms, such as Packt, which costs $15.99 per month.

One thing to note, the physical books published by O’Reilly sell on Amazon with a price between $35 and $80, some cost more and some cost less.

If you prefer to read physical books and typically read only 1 book a month, then buying the physical books might be the better option. But if you enjoy reading digital books and read more than 1 book a month, then subscribing to the O’Reilly might be the better option for you.

Should You Subscribe?

In my opinion, the people who should sign up would typically be:

I consider the price to be high for what it offers, but, I enjoy the content they provide because they offer various content on different fields such as AI, Software Development and Engineering, Business, and more.

I have been subscribed for a few months already, and even change my subscription to a trimonthly subscription to reduce the cost (by around $10 a month).

Conclusion

Considering the price and benefits factors, I am happy with my subscription to the O’Reilly platform, and will probably continue to be subscribed until the end of 2024.

Thank you for reading the article, I hope you learned more about the platform and were able to decide whether you should subscribe to the platform or not.

See you in the next one!
